Your Care, Your Choice…Choose Lower Cape Fear LifeCare

Although your doctor, family members and friends can all provide suggestions about hospice providers, YOU are the ultimate decision maker in who provides your hospice care. When choosing a hospice provider, you want one that suits your needs, as well as those of your family.

While most hospices are Medicare certified and provide end-of-life care, how they provide that care is different. So are the services, programs, and levels of care and support they provide.

All hospices are not the same. Lower Cape Fear LifeCare is continually expanding its spectrum of support and life care to meet our community’s changing healthcare needs.

Be informed. Know your options for care.

As the area’s longest operating nonprofit hospice, more than 6,000 families each year trust us with their care. We have built a solid reputation in our community for providing compassionate care and comfort that treats each patient with dignity and respect, and provides much needed support to their families. No patient is ever refused care based on their ability to pay.

You and your family can expect:

  • Lower Cape Fear LifeCare is the only area hospice that has full-time physicians on staff. Many of our clinical staff members (physicians, nurses, and aides) have earned their certification in hospice and palliative care. This certification stands as their commitment to providing you and your family the highest level of expert care.

  • Care and Support for All Your Needs

Each patient and family has access to our interdisciplinary teams: physician, registered nurse, certified nursing assistant, medical social worker, and chaplain. These teams provide care and support to patients and family members, as well as education to caregivers. They ensure that all physical, psychological and spiritual needs are met. Your team will create an individualized care plan based specifically on your wishes so you can expect the highest quality of life for you and your loved ones.

  • Assistance When You Need It

We are available to our patients and families 24/7 to address critical situations. That means you can call us at 2 a.m., a Sunday afternoon, or on any holiday, and an on-call nurse will respond and address your concerns. You’re never alone under our care.

  • Multiple Levels of Care

Since hospice and palliative care services are all we do, we’re experts in determining what level of care you or your loved one may need at this stage in the disease process.

If you have a serious illness but hospice care is not yet appropriate, we offer palliative care to help you manage the pain and symptoms associated with your disease. We monitor your condition and work closely with your current doctor to offer an extra level of care.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) and Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center (NHBMC) trust their patients to our palliative care providers through quality partnerships.

More than 90 percent of our hospice patients are served where they live: in a private residence, assisted living or skilled nursing facility, or hospital. However, if pain and symptoms cannot be managed at home, we offer inpatient hospice care centers where our staff can better manage your care with the goal of getting you back to where you live. If needs require continued inpatient care, we are there for you.

  • Exclusive Hospice Care Centers

Our three centrally-located inpatient hospice care centers are available exclusively to LCFL patients. No other hospice provider in the region offers patients and families this level of care.

This ensures you and your family have a home-like atmosphere in which to spend precious time together when pain and symptoms cannot be managed at home. Experience the level of care at our hospice care centers. Or, take individual tours of our Wilmington, Bolivia and Whiteville facilities.

Depending on availability, our hospice care centers can also provide families with respite care, so that caregivers can get the break they need, while patients receive the highest-quality care.

  • Extensive Volunteer Services

We have more than 400 dedicated volunteers to assist us in our mission. Many of them have been through hospice care with a loved one themselves.

Our volunteer services are expansive. Volunteers are available for patient companionship, and family support in providing respite care or running errands, but they that’s not all. From bucket list fulfillment, to celebrations of life, to lawn maintenance, and more, our volunteers are there to support you and your family when you need it most.

  • We Honor Veterans

Lower Cape Fear LifeCare is a Level 5 partner in the We Honor Veterans program. We understand that veterans have specific needs at end of life and are dedicated to fulfilling them. Our vet-to-vet program pairs veterans with veteran volunteers to offer the comradery and understanding that only another veteran can provide. We also honor our veteran patients’ service with pinning ceremonies that emphasize the appreciation felt for them having served their country.

  • Unparalleled Grief Care

We provide families extensive opportunities for grief care for both adults and children. Families receive our Healing Journey newsletter and are eligible for free grief counseling for up to 13 months after the loss of their loved one. No cost grief groups, Healing Arts workshops, Family Days, and Children’s Camps are also available.

An up-to-date list of our no-cost grief support groups and workshops can be found on our event calendar.

Let us be a resource for you.
