SGV vs. Riverside among four all-star softball games on June 2 (2024)

Jesse Mendez, a former area softball coach, has been organizing the San Gabriel Valley all-star softball games for more than a decade.

This year he has partnered with Fastpitch Films to organize quite a show that will take place June 2 at the University of La Verne.

There will be two underclassmen all-star games, made up of players from the San Gabriel Valley at 12:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.. Those games will be followed by a San Gabriel Valley senior all-star game at 4:45 p.m. The final game matches the best-of-the best SGV all-stars, made up of underclassmen and seniors, against the Riverside area’s best all-stars at 7:30 p.m.

The SGV best-of-best teams features three UCLA commits: Whittier Christian senior Aleena Garcia, Los Altos junior Brianah Alejandre and South El Monte junior Jazmine Leyva. The team includes Temple City pitcher Kassandra Gewecke, an Ohio State commit, South Hills slugger Joie Economides, a Stanford commit, and South Hills’ Kayla Sigala, a Syracuse commit.

The SGV team will also include a pair of strong junior pitchers, La Mirada’s Montse Reyes-Cardenas (San Diego State) and California’s Pricilla Ramirez (Long Beach State).

Mendez will be the head coach of the best-of-the-best SGV squad.

Just prior to the final game, there will be a Home Run Derby at 6:45 p.m.

The SGV underclassmen and seniors games have yet to divide up their rosters, but players have already been selected. There will be a media day/portrait day May 28 at Azusa High from 4-6 p.m.
